On & On


The days keep going by. It's already September and there has been a sudden shift in the weather. I went into work on Friday morning wondering if I might be too warm in my buttton-down shirt, only to leave in the evening I wish I had brought a jacket. Not that I'm complaining, the cool fall weather is absolutely beautiful and I have been anticipating it since my arrival mid-heatwave. There is a lovely breeze in the mornings and I am very much looking forward to the proper start of the Hiking Season. Apparently, hiking is a huge deal here especially in the fall which, according to many sources, is Korea's best season. I am actually going to be able to hike up a mountain in Seoul tomorrow after church, which I am very much looking forward to!
Classes are going fairly well. I am doing much better now that I have stopped trying to change my work habits from a morning worker to an evening worker. I have accepted the inevitable and now head into work at about 10am to make sure my lessons are prepped and ready for the week so that when I am finished teaching and finished my end-of-the-day work I can head home no later than 10pm. Usually, I am the first person in, which suits me fine. I can get a lot done in the morning when I am in a work environment and there's not too much busy-ness going on around me.
Last Sunday, my friends and I went to Insa-dong and Samcheong-dong to look at the shops and the old style Korean houses. We had a lovely time walking around and taking pictures.

Here we are starting a new travel blog! The first post is always the worst... But here we go anyhow! For those of you who know, and those of you who don't, I will be heading off to South Korea by the end of this month to teach English as a Foreign Language with ChungDahm Learning (CDL). I have been placed at the April Byeollae (별내) Campus in Namyangju (남양주), a satellite city of Seoul.  The Yellow Splotch is my approximate location. Google Maps is a little tricky to search Korean Addresses on since they're laid out differently. I will be able to get a more accurate location when I'm there and I actually figure out how the addresses work! 1 month...ish

It has nearly been a month since I arrived, exhausted, at Byeollae Station ( 별내역). I can confidently say that I am in a much different place than I was when I arrived. Teaching has its ups and downs but each week feels a little bit more like routine. Now that the craziness of Summer Intensives is over, the hagwon ( 학원) feels more peaceful. After Wednesday, I start teaching all new April (the pre-planned curriculum) classes as the new semester begins. It is time for my current classes to level up and I have no idea if I will have any of the same students or not! My Edge classes (the classes I have to plan myself), however, will mostly stay the same. I've been doing a lot of unit planning for those.  The directory wants there to be a better system in place for how to teach the different textbooks and how to organize each Cycle or Unit, so I have been planning and sorting etc. Sundays, I make my way into Seoul to attend Jubilee Church, an international, interdenominational church...

오랜만이에요 (It's been awhile...)!

Greetings from the far side of the world! It has been a solid 5ish months since my last post, which, I will be the first to admit, is positively disgraceful. You have my deepest apologies and absolutely no promises that I won't do it again! What have I been up to the past five months, you ask? Well, mostly just the usual teaching and marking and so forth. We've had some changes at the academy with old teachers going back to school for various Master's degrees and new teachers beginning. I got a new schedule in March and am now teaching 30 classes a week. My classes are mostly good, but some classes are more challenging to teach depending on the day and the varying moods of my students. Over 설날 (Lunar New Year), I went to  속초 (Sokcho) with Lien which was a welcome getaway. We stayed in a lovely Airbnb that had a view of the ocean.
