First Steps

Here we are starting a new travel blog! The first post is always the worst...

But here we go anyhow!

For those of you who know, and those of you who don't, I will be heading off to South Korea by the end of this month to teach English as a Foreign Language with ChungDahm Learning (CDL). I have been placed at the April Byeollae (별내) Campus in Namyangju (남양주), a satellite city of Seoul.

The Yellow Splotch is my approximate location. Google Maps is a little tricky to search Korean Addresses on since they're laid out differently. I will be able to get a more accurate location when I'm there and I actually figure out how the addresses work!

Google Images is not particularly kind in terms of looking at the city or surrounding countryside, but here are a couple of nice pictures I found to give you a decent idea of what I will be surrounded by.

CDL has three different ages/institutions: i-Garten (an English immersive type kindegarten), April Institute (Elementary School age), and ChungDahm Institute (high school age). Both April and CDI are after-school schools or hagwons ( 학원), while i-Garten is more of an immersive daycare.

I will be provided housing through the school which I will be able to move into after my first week of training. They are currently looking to get me into the July 30-August 3 training week, but that might be dependent on how quickly they can get my visa stuff together. This would give me a July 27 leaving date (in order to arrive on the 28th and have one day for time change adjustments).

At the moment, I just have a year-long contract but ChungDahm loves it when people stay longer so if it's a good fit I'll be staying indefinitely!

It's all very exciting and terrifying, but I know that God will be faithful and keep in through all the changes and culture shock.

I will be posting periodically when I am there and will post the link on Facebook when I update. I'm not sure how subscriptions and things work on blogger but if you want to subscribe or whatever feel free to do so!
